Doer Drive Program Cancelled

On 25 October 2024, doer.org.au received correspondence from the Western Australian Department of Transport, that our application for funding under the Driving Access and Equity grant program, to both continue and expand our free driving lessons (the doer drive project) across the region, has been unsuccessful.

Given the lack of available funding for our drive program in the Shire of Ashburton and Shire of East Pilbara regions, we regret to announce that our drive program will be cancelled in its entirety.

We will shortly be publishing in full, our funding application and response from the Department of Transport (DoT).

On a positive note, the DoT have noted that the areas we had intended to service "will be serviced by other providers".

The DoT has published a list of their successful applicants for the Driving Access and Equity grants here.

Over the coming days, we will contact every one currently on our waiting list with further information and referrals to alternative providers.

For those looking for further information on accessing free driving lessons in the Pilbara, we strongly recommend contacting the organisations that have been funded as part of the DAEP, linked above and noted below.

Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation's Learn 2 Drive program. Servicing: Karratha, Marble Bar, Newman, Nullagine, Onslow, Port Hedland, Roebourne, South Hedland, Tom Price, Wickham, Bellary, Jigalong, Jinparinya, Kunawarritji, Marta Marta, Parnngurr, Pippingarra, Punja Njamal, Punmu, Strelley, Wakathuni, Warralong, Yandeyarra, Youngaleena Bunlima

Bloodwood Tree Association's Enhanced Driver Training and Education for the East Pilbara program. Servicing: Newman, Port Hedland, South Hedland, Tom Price, Wakathuni, Warralong, Yandeyarra

Youth Involvement Council Inc's Drive 2 Thrive program. Servicing: Port Hedland.

doer.org.au would like to thank our generous donors, supporters and students, whom without, we would have been unable to have help so many regional disadvantaged residents in attaining their driving licences and securing sustainable employment.

It may take a number of days for our website to be updated in full, to reflect the closure of our drive program. Any applications in the interim will be contacted and referred to another organisation.
